Mikko Niemelä is Professor of Sociology at the Department of Social Research, University of Turku and Research Professor at the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. During the academic year 2011-2012 he was a part-time professor, and in 2014 associate professor, of social and health policy at the School of Health Sciences in Tampere. Since 2015 he has been a professor of sociology at the University of Turku as well as a director of the research consortium project “Tackling Inequalities in Time of Austerity” (TITA) funded by the Academy of Finland. He has been a visiting fellow at the Stockholm University and Sydney (Social Policy Research Centre). Niemelä’s research focuses on welfare attitudes, economic inequality and the role of ideas in policy processes. He is leading the research consortium “Tackling Inequalities in Time of Austerity” (TITA) funded by the Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland.
